Douglas Monroe, Jr., Vice Chair, Board of Directors, Chesapeake Financial Shares, Inc., is also a former Chair and CEO of Chesapeake Financial Shares, Inc. and Chesapeake Bank. During his distinguished career in banking he served as a board member of Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, as a member and President of the Virginia Bankers Association’s board, as the Vice Chair of the Community Bankers Division of the American Bankers Association, and as a board member of the Corporation for American Banking.
Mr. Monroe is a co-founder and former secretary of the board of Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington. Formerly, he was the Chair of Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, a board member of the hospital’s holding company, a co-founder and Chair of the Board of Trustees at Chesapeake Academy in Irvington, a co-founder and President of Virginia Quality of Life, and a board member of the Northern Neck Food Bank.
Mr. Monroe earned a BS degree at Washington and Lee University. From 1955 to 1959 he served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy. He taught Naval ROTC at Purdue University while earning an MS in economics.
